Abstract

Plastic waste is the most difficult waste to manage because it takes a very long time to make the plastic waste is completely decomposed,that for it is required special treatment in handling it.The alternative of plastic waste processing is by counting using the machine in order to pass the process of recycling (recycle) plastic waste,in addition to reducing plastic waste generation,but can also increase the added value of waste both in benefit of use and economic.For that it is necessary to know the number of machines needed to chop the plastic waste,in accordance with the existing waste generation in Selaparang District. The research method is study through observation and direct measurement,which involves observations and interviews with the Selaparang District community and analyzly descriptive quantitative methode.Sources of information in the study include:Government (Head of Sub-District, Village Head, and RT/RW), Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), and people living in Selaparang sub-district.The data collected is:Total production of household and non-household waste (shops, schools, markets, offices, and streets) in Selaparang District,composition of waste from each waste generating unit,and the amount of plastic waste produced in Selaparang District.This study also uses literature to obtain the data, as well as the required images. The result showed that total domestic/housing waste produced was 38.213,28 kg/day consisting of 6,743,5 kg/day of plastic waste and 31,469.8 kg/day of organic and unorganic waste (other than plastic),then total non-domestic/non-residential waste is 1,249.1 kg/day consisting of 168.35 kg/day of plastic waste and 1081.1 kg/day of organic and unorganic waste (other than plastic).Based on the data of generation and composition of garbage obtained, then the number of machines needed to enumerate plastic waste in Selaparang District is amounted to 9 units,with a capacity of 100 kg/hour.
