Abstract

This study entitled ― An Analysis of Code Mixing Used By Students at Madrasatul Quraniyah Islamic Boarding School Batulayar West of Lombok. Academic Year 2017/2018 aims at (1) describing the types of language mixing used by students at Madrasatul Quraniyah Batulayar Lombok Barat, and (2) finding out the reasons What are the reasons of using code- mixing by students at Madrasatul Quraniyah Batulayar Lombok Barat. This research uses descriptive qualitative method, in which the samples involves 14 members of students at Madrasatul Quraniyah Islamic boarding school Batulayar Lombok Barat. Data were collected using data recorder observation of the students conversation members in Madrasatul Quraniyah Batulayar. Having been transcribed and translated, the data were identified based on code mixing in order to analyze the types and the reasons for code mixhing. The researcher found out three types of code mixing used by student of Madrasatul Quraniyah Batulayar, namely are insertion 24 or 55,81%, alternation 17 or 39,53%, and congruent lexicalization 2 or 4,65%. There are five reasons for doing codemixing by students at Madrasatul Quraniyah Islamic boarding school Batulayar Lombok Barat. Such as (a) talking about particular topic, (b) quoting somebody else, (c) using interjection (inserting sentence fillers or sentence connectors), (d) being emphatic about something, and (e) using repetition used for clarification.
