Abstract

Morphology is one of language structure that has broad area of discussion. It has two branches which are called inflectional and derivational. This research is focused on the discussion of derivation, especially the derivation of Adjective. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative design. Dictionary is the main sources in collecting the data. Words from Noun and Verb, which having the process of Adjective derivation, analyze to get the information about the markers of making Adjective. Those markers are Suffixes which attach to the base word. From four word classes, this research only discusses Noun and Verb. There were found 11 suffixes that change Noun base word into Adjective, which are –al, -ic, -ish, -an, -ive, -ous, -y, -ary, -ist, -ant, and –ate. In Verb derived Adjective, found 8 suffixes such as –ant/-ent, -ive, -ing, -ory, -ous, -al, -ed, and –able. Those suffixes experienced some processes when attaching the base word. In summary, the processes are drawn as deletion of a phoneme or morpheme, addition of a phoneme or morpheme, interpolation or insertion, and deformation of a phoneme.
