Abstract

This thesis entitled “Analysis of Students’ Mistakes in Writing Recount Text: A Case Study of Eleventh Year Students of SMAN 7 Mataram 2011/2012” was intended to find out the common mistakes made by students in writing recount texts. The population of this study was the eleventh year students of SMAN 7 Mataram. The researcher took 33 students as the sample by using random sample. The data in this study were gained through questionnaires and students’ writing recount texts. After that, the data was analyzed used quantitative and qualitative approaches. The researcher then analyzed data on student’ on generic structures, the questionnaires and grammatical features. It was found 18,2% that students made mistakes in generic structure, 11,2% mistakes in questionnaire and 281 mistakes that the students’ made in writing recount text, which were divided into 5 categories. There were 35,9% mistakes in using verb forms, 18,9% mistakes in using of preposition, 16,7% mistakes in using word order, 14,6% mistakes in using of singular noun, and 13,9% mistakes in using subject verb agreement.
