Abstract
This study is about codeswitching among the Sasak community at Kuta, Central Lombok. The research aims at describing the types and the factors that contribute to the use of it. This study employed codeswitching case by referring to“meriaq-meriku” speakers who lived at Kuta, Central Lombok. The research design applied qualitative and it continuing by using Intra-lingual and Extra-lingual method. The data are collected by Interview, audio recording and observation. This research found that, there are three types of codeswitching such as; (1) Inter sentential, (2) Intra sentential, and (3) Tag (emblematic) switching. Besides that, there are also found several factors that contribute to the use of code switching such as; (1) Opponent of Speak (speaking partner), (2) Attending third Speaker, (3) Topic, (4) Awakening Humor, (5) just for Prestige, and (8) Situation. Regarding to the result of this research, the researcher may suggest that research on codeswitching among the Sasak community at Kuta, Central Lombok can be conducted with narrower scope so that the more comprehensive analysis will be gained in relation with the more fundamental language choice.
