Abstract

This research is an action research which aims at describing student’s ability in listening skill. The population was the 8th grade students of SMPN 15 Mataram. The sample was the 8th grade students of class D. The researcher used songs and observation student’s sheets to obtain the required data. It was found that there was a progress in gaining the score in listening to song from cycle 1 to cycle 2. In cycle 1 the total score for the student’s achievement in listening to song is 30% and in cycle 2 students gained score 6.5 is 92.5%. Then the achievement of KKM is also increased from cycle 1 to cycle 2. In cycle 1 the students who have achieved the KKM are 12 students (30%) and in cycle 2 the students who have achieved the KKM are 37 students (92.5%). It is clear that the students listening skill can be improved by using English songs.
