Abstract
The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of using word games in teaching vocabulary. Word games are a word play or any game involving the formation, discovery, or alteration of a word or words. This study took place at SMPN 1 Batulayar, West Lombok. The sample was two classes of seven graders in second semesters. The statistical procedure (t-test formula) was used in analyzing the data. The result of data computation shows that the value of t-test is 4.64. It is higher than the t-table at the confident level .01 (99%) which is 2.704, and at the confident level .05(95%) which is 2.021, with the degree of freedom (df) is 40. From that result, it is clear that the use of Word games is effective in improving students’ vocabulary knowledge.
