Abstract

This research is motivated by the ability of the Tarlawi community to maintain the minority Sambori dialect among speakers of majority languages. This study aims to describe the survival of the Sambori dialect in Tarlawi Village and the factors that influence the survival of the Sambori dialect in Tarlawi Village, Bima Regency. This study uses a qualitative approach. The research population of all Sambori dialect communities in Tarlawi Village with a sample of 60 people, sampling in this study using purposive sampling technique. Methods of data collection using competent methods (interviews), questionnaires and methods of referrals. Data analysis activities use the extralingual equivalent method. Presentation of the results of the analysis using formal and informal methods. The results of this study are as follows. First, the Sambori dialect still survives. The defense of this dialect is due to the Sambori dialect being used by the speech community in various social domains. The highest use of the Sambori dialect is in the family domain (89%), then the domain of neighboring (87%), the realm of work (67.7%), the realm of education (64.17%) and the lowest is the religious and customary domains (62%). The average percentage of Sambori dialects in Tarlawi Village is 74%. The percentage in the category still survives. Second, the survival of the Sambori dialect in Tarlawi Village, Bima Regency is influenced by the following factors. First, there are residential areas that are geographically separated from the Sera Suba dialect community. Second, there is a positive attitude towards language. Third, the inheritance of the Sambori dialect from generation to generation.
