Abstract

This study focused on studying The Influence of Newspapers Media on English Speaking Achievement. This study is aimed to find out how significant The Influence of Newspapers Media on English Speaking Achievement to teach EFL (English as Foreign Language) statistically. In addition, this study is also aimed to study the benefits of teaching speaking through Newspapers Media based on the qualitative data obtained. The research design is an experimental approach. In this research the number of sample taken is 19 % out of 320 students. The sample of the study is students in SMAN 1 Gerung consisting of 30 students belonging to experimental group and 30 students are selected from students who do not participate in Sample Class belonging to control group. Thus, the total number of samples of this research is 60 students. The sampling techniques used in this study is cluster sampling. The researcher gives a set of treatments with using the newspapers to teach EFL for Experimental Group, meanwhile, the Control Group using textbook to teach EFL. The result of this study shows that the value of t-test is 2.9. This is higher than the critical value of t-table at the confidence level .05 (95 %) with 2.000 and at the confidence level .01 (99 %) equals to 2.660 in degree of freedom (df) of 58. It indicates that there is a significant difference in the English speaking achievement of the students who is taught with Newspapers Media than the students who have been taught with Textbook.
