Abstract

This thesis entitled The Influence of The Society Toward The Development of The Main Character in Arthur Golden’s Novel: Memoirs of a Geisha is aimed at analyzing the extrinsic element of Arthur Golden’s Novel entitled Memoirs of a Geisha. Extrinsic elements are the elements which construct the novel from outside. The method of analyzing the novel used in this thesis is the qualitative method. In analyzing the data, the writer uses sociological approach which only focuses on the extrinsic elements of Arthur Golden’s novel: Memoirs of a Geisha. The data collecting techniques are library research and also applies method of note-taking. Researcher focus on finding and analyzing the Influence of the Society Toward the Development of the Main Character in Arthur Golden’s novel:Memoirs of a Geisha. The researcher found that society has a great effect on the main character’s life and also the main character has influence to her society.
