Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of administration of dates extract feed supplement and equilibration time of semen kacang goat on progressive motility and viability of post-thawing spermatozoa. Five bucks of 2 years of age were used. Semen were collected twice before and after dates extract supplementation. Then the semen was equilibrated for 2, 3 and 4 hours in ampoule before freezing and following freezed-thawed by sperm motility and viability were examinated. The result evaluation progressive motility indicated that equilibrated time for 2, 3 and 4 hours before and after supplementation of dates extract were significantly different (P<0,05) those were 27,0%, 31,5%, 41,0% and 34,5%, 44,0%, 51,7% respectively. The result of viability of spermatozoa before and after dates extract supplementation showed that, following equilibrated for 2, 3 and 4 hours were were significantly different (P<0,05) those were 27,6%, 35,8%, 45,4% and 37,9%, 47,5%, 53,8% respectively. Finally it can be concluded that dates extract as feed supplementation and equilibration time may improve progresive motility and viability post-thawed spermatozoa.
