Abstract
VOCABULARY ACHIEVEMENT BY USING ENGLISH CHILDREN SONGS. A CLASSROOM ACTION RESEARCH IN CLASS III-A AT SD NEGERI 1 AMPENAN IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2011-2012. This research investigates the use of children songs at SD Negeri 1 Ampenan in academic year 2011-2012 who were mostly limited in vocabulary skill. There were 25 students in the sample. The data were gained through classroom observation, tests, and interview. The study was conducted in three cycles. The resear cher used three children songs about family, occupations, and clothes. In cycle 1, the students sing the three songs with the teacher and the teacher wrote the lyrics on white board, and the percentage of students passed is 40% and 60% failed. In cycle 2, the researcher divided the students into three groups and each student in each group mentioned and wrote the words that had related to theme and the percentage of students passed 72% and 28% is failed. In cycle 3, the researcher changed the cassette into video and gives the students clue (action songs) about the words relate d to songs and tried to find out the song’s meaning and the percentage of students passed is 88% and 12% is failed. The researcher concludes that the use of children songs could increase the students’ vocabulary achievement.
