Abstract

The objective of this study is to investigate whether there was a correlation between students’ habit using internet and their vocabulary development at the first grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Plampang in academic year 2016/2017. The method used in this research is a quantitative research and it designed as a correlation study. The sample of this study was 30 students of the first grade technology engineering of SMK Negeri 1 Plampang in academic year 2016/2017. The data of students were collected through purposive sampling technique. Questionnaires and test are used as the instruments of this research. First of all, students’ habit questionnaires were given to the students in the form of closed questionnaire. The aim of this test was to know the students’ habits of using internet score. Second, a vocabulary test was conducted to measure students’ vocabulary development. Then, the researcher analyzes the relationship about those two variables by using Pearson’s Product Moment (IBM, SPSS 16.0). The finding of the study showed that the r-observed was 0.415 and r-table was 0.374 (sig. two-tailed). It means that r-value was higher than r-table in the significant level 5% (two-tailed). Thus, the proposed of hypothesis Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected, so it can be concluded that there was a relationship between students’ habits using internet and their vocabulary development at the first grade of SMK Negeri 1 Plampang in academic year 2016/2017.
