Abstract

This study aims to find out the significant difference of achievement in English between male and female students and describe the factors which influence their achievement in English. This mix-method study was conducted in SMP Negeri 1 Kediri, Lombok Barat. Subjects of the study were chosen with purposive sampling. The data were by collected by using objective test. The results of data analysis revealed that there is no significant difference between female students and male students’ achievement in English. This known by looking at the hypothesis testing which t-van the form of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), which administered to the male and female students. The results of data analysis revealed that there is no significant difference between male and female students’ achievement in English. This is known by looking at the hypothesis testing which t-value is higher than t-table at significant level .05 (95%) and .01(99%). While, factor influencing students’ achievement in English is divided into two: internal and external factors. Internal factors consist of students’ vocabularies, interest, motivation, language use, and students’ personality. While, external factors are consist with teachers, family, school, mobile phone, and educational system. The most provoking factors are students’ interest and vocabularies which seven of ten participants are agree with them.
