Abstract

This study is entitled “An Analysis of Personifications Used in Modern Pop Culture Songs”. It was aimed at finding out thepersonifications used in modern pop culture songs. The data were taken from 4 different popular songs in modern music generation such as Careless Whisperby George Michael from the album Make It Big in 1984, Across the Universe from the Beatles from the album No One‟s Gonna Change Our World in 1969, Highway Don‟t Care by Tim McGraw feat. Taylor Swift from Two Lanes of Freedom in 2013, and Michael Jackson‟s Thriller from the same title album in 1982.The type of data that is used in this study is a qualitative data. In collecting data, the researcher downloaded the data on website lyrics on internet. The data analyzed in the study were some written texts in the form of song lyrics. The result showed that many personifications were found in modern pop culture songs and each has its literal and non-literal meanings which songwriters use to beautify the lyrics.
