Abstract

This thesis entitled “An Analysis of Figurative Language Zara Larsson’s Selected Songs” attempt to describe the kinds of figurative languages and the meaning of figurative language. Formalism theory uses to analyzed the types of figurative language found in song lyrics, and then data analyzed by using descriptive qualitative method. The figurative languages are focused on hyperbole, metaphor, personification, and simile. The data of research were acquired from three Zara Larsson albums. Those are Uncover, So Good and Allow Me Reintroduce Myself. After analyzed the in song lyrics, the researcher found that: (1) there are sevenkinds of figurative language found those are as hyperbole, simile, paradox, synecdoche, metonymy, imagery and symbolism. After find eight kinds of figurative language the researcher focuses in five kinds of figurative language to be observed those are hyperbole, personification, synecdoche, metonymy, imagery, and simile. (2) Each lyric is certainly does have a message directed to the listener in order to describe or figure out the intention and idea after listening the song. (3) Hyperbole is kind of figurative language that most dominant used in song lyrics then metonymy, simile, imagery, and last one synecdoche. The existence of figurative language is not only to complete understanding of song, but to make beautify and to clarity the understanding of the song lyrics.
