Abstract

Background: Cardiovascular disease is a condition caused by abnormalities in the heart and blood vessels. In addition to this, several studies and previous reports on cardiovascular show that this disease can decrease and impaire cognitive function. This is associated to several risk factors for cardiovascular disease based on Framingham risk factors. Therefore this study is aimed at to determining the effect of the level of risk of cardiovascular disease on cognitive function. Method: This research belong to observasional research by employing cross sectional design research approach. This research was conducted by taking the sampels from 55 respondents aged ≥40 years at Mataram City. They were chosen by following the inclusion criteria. Questionnaire instruments and blood samples were employed as the sampling method. The risk of cardiovascular disease was measured based on the Framingham risk score and the cognitive function assessment was conducted by using the CDT method. Kruskal-Wallis and chi- square were used to analyze the data. Result: Of the 55 respondents, this research showed that therewere 14 (25.5%) respondents had high risk, 14 (25.5%) had moderate risk, and 27 (49%) had low risk. Moreover there were 25 (45.5%) respondents who had normal CDT scores and 30 (54.5%) had low CDT scores. The Kruskal-Wallis comparative analysis showed that there was no effect of risk factors on cardiovascular disease based on the framingham risk score on CDT scores (p> 0.05). Conclusion: There was no effect on the level of risk of cardiovascular disease based on the framingham risk score on the CDT score.
