Abstract

This research was conducted at the Laboratory Immunobiologi University of Mataram, since 28 September 2010 to 13 November 2010. This was purpose at investigating the preservability of diluent after the addition of guava antioxidants on structure and function integrity of Peranakan Ettawa goat spermatozoa and to find out the optimal concentration of guava antioxidants as a substitution for egg yolk in the diluent.This research method is experimental laboratoric with materials used were goat sperm of Peranakan Ettawa. The design used was completely randomized design. The treatments used were control (2.5 ml egg yolk / 100 ml tris-based diluent), guava antioxidants 25% (1.87 ml egg yolk + 0.63 mg guava + 12.5 ml of solution of tris), guava antioxidants 50% (1.25 ml egg yolk + 1.25 mg guava + 12.5 ml of tris), guava antioxidants 75% (0.63 ml egg yolk + 1.87 mg guava + 12.5 ml tris), guava antioxidants 100% (2.5 mg of guava + 12.5 ml of tris). Variables observed were progressive motility, survival (viability) and abnormality of spermatozoa. The analysis used was Variance analysis and the results which significantly different continued to least significant difference test (LSD). The results showed, that with the addition of guava antioxidants able to maintain the structure and function of spermatozoa up to 4 days. Statistical analysis showed that the addition of antioxidant preservative agent guava as significant (P <0.01) to the integrity of the structure and function of spermatozoa (progressive motility, viability and morphology). Addition of antioxidants guava as much as 50% gave the best results on the survival and abnormalities and the concentration of 75% gives the best results in progressive motility of goat spermatozoa.
