Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the possibility of female crossbred-Ettawa goats (PE goats) reared in Dasan Geres, Gerung, West-Lombok to be used as crossbred-Ettawa breeding stock according to the recommendation of Indonesian national standard (SNI) for developing those goats in Lombok Island.A survey was conducted on 30 respondents’ determined using a sampling census technique. Primary data were obtained by conducting the observations by measuring 64 female crossbred-Ettawa goatswhich grouped into 3 age groups (I0, I1 and I2);and interview based on the questionnaires, and the secondary data were gathered from government institutions of West-Lombok. The data related to the quantitative characteristic averages of female crossbred Ettawa goats were compared to the SNI values and graded base on the grade and price standards according to Sugiarto (2014), and then analyzed using descriptive method. The result showed that the all quantitative characteristics of I0group achieved the SNI standard, except girth height; on theI1group, all the quantitative characteristics also reached the SNI standar, except hearth girth and girth height, while on the I2 group, the quantitative characteristics did not achieved the SNI standard were girth height, length of ear and hair length of rear thigh. Most of the female crossbred-Ettawa goats reared by farmers in Dasan Geres were categorized in D grade (45,3%), even some of them categorized into E grade which means the lowest grade (7,8%). The higher grade of C were about 26,6%; the grade of B about 17,2% and the A grade was only 3,1%. Generally, the farmers sold their female crossbred Ettawa goats cheaper than price standards of Sugiarto (2012) due to lack of information. To increase the productivity of female crossbred Ettawa goats, it is suggested to keep those goats which have A and B grades to look after for producing goat breeding stock.
