Abstract

A study had been conducted aimed at analyzing of crude fibre (CF) contain and determining in-vitro organic matter digestibility (IVOMD) of forages offered to large ruminants raised by farmer located in four sub-districts of Mataram County such as Selaparang, Sandubaya, Sekarbela, and Cakranegara. Collecting samples were taken in November - December 2014. Representative samples of forages were collected from the area where farmer usually taking forages with cut-and-carry system. Collected samples were then brought to Nutrition Laboratory at Faculty of Animal Science University of Mataram for determining the botanical composition, chemical composition, and in-vitro digestibility. Determined data of forages were descriptively analyzed with the arithmetic mean ( ± SD). The results of this study indicated that there were 12-kind of forages dominantly cut by the farmers for feeding large ruminants such as Stenotaphrum secundatum (rumput lapangan), Cynodon dactylon (rumput gigirinting), Eleusine indica (rumput belulang), Cyperus rotundus (rumput teki), Urochloa mosambicensis (rumput sabi), Euphorbia hirta L (patikan kerbau), Axonopus compressus (rumput paitan), Paspalum dilatatum (rumput australia), Panicum maximum (rumput benggala), Brachiaria ruziziensis (rumput ruzi), Pennisetum purpupoides (rumput raja), and Zoysia matrella (rumput manila). Entirely, the crude fibre content and in-vitro organic matter digestibility of those identified forages were ranged between 16.19 to 28.87 % and 81.01 to 91.93 %, respectively. It could be suggested that the farmers would be better to breed intensively the forages those had relatively higher in the chemical composition and in-vitro digestibility.
