Abstract

The objective of the research was to develop the students‟ listening ability through the use of Audio Visual Media at second year students of SMPN 2 Labuapi academic year 2017/2018. This research was quasi-experimental research and the data collected were quantitative data. The quasi-experimental reseach designed used two classes which were taught in using two different media. This research using cluster random sampling. The experimental class was taught with Audio Visual Media, and the control class was taught only with audio, without visual media. The populations was the second grade students of SMPN 2 Labuapi,which consists of 95 students; the sample was 48 students. Each who were divided into two groups consists of 24 students. Furthermore, this research was conducted through the following procedures: pre-test, treatments and post-test. The data analyzed in this research was gathered through test, scoring, it was analyzed and processed using statistical calculation of T-test. The result of the data analysis showed that the t-test result is higher than the t-table. The t-test result is 2.0365 and the t-table is 1.6787 at the confidence level of .05 (95%). It means that there was effect of using Audio Visual Media in developing students‟ listening ability.
