Abstract
The aims of this thesis entitled “Intimacy and Distance as Observed in Kinship and Address Form among Families Living in Karang Raden, North Lombok” are to explain the kind of kinship and address form used by Sasak families living in Karang Raden and to explain what kind of linguistic markers used to indicate intimacy and distance and the factor influence their use. The design of this study is Descriptive study and qualitative research method in analyzing the data. The population of this study was the utterances from the Sasak people that contain kinship and address form in ordinary conversation, while the samples from the recordings that were 62 male recordings and 38 female recording. In collecting the data, 50 conversations were taken from the recording. These conversations were analyzed using observation, recording and note taking. The results showed that there are two kinds of address from and kinship used by families living in Karang Raden, which are kinship and address form used by noble families and ordinary families. The result also showed there are also linguistic markers to indicate intimacy and distance influenced by symmetrical functions of equality both status and age, There are 25 address forms and kinship that are used in Linguistic markers to indicate intimacy in ordinary families and 24 address forms and kinship used by noble families. And also there are 2 address forms and kinship that are used in Linguistic markers to indicate distance used by ordinary family and 7 address forms and kinship used by noble families. The factors influence their use of kinship are factors of age and social status or strata that the speaker has.
