Abstract

Abstract. This classroom action research aims at finding out how the application of the “Deconstruction-Construction” Model is capable of optimizing teaching and learning process and improving the quality of students’ writing. It was conducted on Writing III class, attended by 19 fourth semester students of English Education Department FKIP UNRAM enrolled in this subject. The research was conducted in four cycles, each of which runs in 4 – 6 hours depending on the topic. Research procedures followed those of classroom action research, in which each cycle consisted of (i) Planning, (ii) Implementation, and (iii) Analysis and Reflection. Data collected using portfolio, observation, reflection, interview, questionnaire, and documentation are analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. From the analysis, it was concluded that (1) the implementation of “Deconstruction-Construction” Model is capable of optimizing the teaching and learning process of Writing 3 class; (2) from the analysis of students’ work, this model can also improve the quality of students’ writing; (3) from the result of questionnaire and interview, it is found that almost all students respond positively to the application of the Deconstruction-Construction Model and Peer-editing. Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana penerapan “Deconstruction-Construction Model” (DCM) mampu memaksimal proses dan meningkatkan kualitas produk dalam pengajaran Writing 3. Penelitian ini melibatkan 19 mahasiswa PS Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris FKIP UNRAM yang memprogramkan mata kuliah Writing 3. Kegiatan yang dilaksanakan dalam 4 siklus, yang masing-masing siklus berjalan selama 4-6 jam tergantung kompleksitas topik mengikuti prosedur Penelitian Tindakan kelas yang terdiri dari (i) Perencanaan, (ii) Pelaksanaan, (iii) Analisis dan Refleksi. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan portofolio, observasi, refleksi, interview, kuesioner, dan dokumentasi dan dianalisis secara kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Dari hasil analisis dapat disimpulkan bahawa (1) penerapan DCM mampu memaksimalkan PBM mata kuliah Writing 3; (2) Model ini juga mampu meningkatkan kualitas produk Writing; (3) Dari hasil interview dan kuesioner ditemukan mahasiswa memberikan respon positif terhadap penerapan DCM dan Peer-Editing dalam mata kuliah Writing
