Abstract

This thesis entitled “The Techniques of Teaching Reading Applied by English Teacher at SMPN 1 Gerung in Academic Year 2018/2019” written by Naelul Qirom was written to find out the most common teaching reading techniques of English teachers. There are four English teachers at the school and all taken as the object of this study. The researcher administrated observation and interview sheets as the instrument of the research. The researcher then observed and interviewed each English teacher and gathered the information to be analyzed. The result of the research shows that the teachers mostly used Teaching Learning Cycle and Three Phase Technique. From four teaching reading techniques, Know Want Learn (K-W-L), Jigsaw, Teaching Learning Cycle (TLC), and Three Phase Technique (TPT), the teachers preferred Teaching Learning Cycle (TLC) and Three Phase Technique (TPT) to be applied in classroom because it was suitable for students’ literacy level and good for classroom management.
