Abstract

This research rised to find out the students difficulities in narrative text and to find out if the use of local folktales is effective for teaching writing narrative text. This research was conducted by using experimental study. The subject of this research were two clases from two diffrent study programs: approach students from language frogram as control group and students from religion program as experimental group at second grades students of MA NW Putra Narmada in academic years 2018/2019. The data are gathered by using pre test and post test design which consisted of 20 students of each group.The data of this research were gathered through quantitative data. The result of this research showed that there was confident scores of post test of experimental group is 1566 which is higher than the scores of control group value, 1546. Moreover, it is also proved by the value of t-test score that is , which is higher than the value of t-table at confidence level of 0.05 (95%) with 1.99 in degree of freedom 38 and at confidence level of 0.01 (99%) with 2.64. In conclusion, the Null hypothesis (Ho) which says “the use of folktales is not effective in teaching writing narrative text” is rejected, and the Alternate hypothesis (Ha) “the use of local folktales in teaching writing narrative text at eight grade students of MA NW For boys ” is acceptable.
