Abstract
This thesis aims to find out the 11th grade of MA NW Sunan Giri students‟ ability in writing descriptive text. This research used quantitative approach. Writing test and questionnaire were used as an instrument to collect the data. The subject of the research was the 11th grade students of MA NW Sunan Giri Montong Baan in the academic year 2018/2019 consisting of 67 students. The result of this research is the students‟ ability in writing descriptive text is low. This supported by the fact that among 67 students, there were only 12 students got the high score, 12 students got moderate scores and 43 students got low scores. The total average score of the test is 59.3. The students problem in writing descriptive text were starting ideas (89%), forming a good paragraph (83%), arranging ideas (86%), forming a good paragraph (71%), other external factors (58%).
