Abstract

One of the crops which is mostly planted in the country of Indonesia is a rice plant. One of post-harvest process is the drying process. Growing technology in agriculture and food, created grain drying technology better and more efficient than conventional drying, on of them with a mechanical dryer. Mechanical dryer basically done using heat from combustion and air is blown through heater or direct contact with product dried. This study was conducted used a vertical continuous dryer. The purpose of this study was to find out heat transfer toward dried rate and dried time also dried efficiency. The variation of the temperature used are 50°C, 55°C, and 60°C with a tolerance of ± 1 °C with a constant mass of 30kg. The result of this study showed that the higher dryer air temperature used then the faster the dried rate and dried time. At a temperature of 60°C produces the fastest dried rate process that was 0,0003279 kg/s also requires dried process that was 105 minutes to reach a moisture content of 13,80%. While at the temperature of 50°C produces the longest dried rate of to reach a moisture content of 13,80% that was 0,0002655 kg/s with constant air speed of 5 m/s. The highest dried efficiency occurs at a temperature variation 60°C that was 7,625 %. While the lowest efficiency occurs at a temperature variation of 50°C that was 4,602 %.
