Abstract
The aims of this reseach were to find out the effect of using picture series in improving students’ writing narrative skill. This study was conducted for a month started at 26th of July 2019 at SMPN 18 Mataram. This study was an experimental research.The population of the research is the second grade students of SMPN 18 Mataram consisted of 179 students. This reseach used two classes of second grade consisted of 63 students chosen as the subject of the research. The sampling Technique was using Simple Random Sampling. Data collection method was by pre-test, treatment and post-test. The research data collection is collected by using instrument which is writing test. The treatment of this study was writing test in form of making simple paragraph of narrative text according to picture series given. From the test data analysis, it was found that the mean score of experimental class was higher than the mean score of control class ( MX= 63.59> MY = 64.83) then further analyzed using t-test, found that t-caunt= 2.723 and t-table = 2.000 at the confidence level of 0.05(95%) and 2.666 at the confidence level of 0.01(99%). By Calculating the data, it can be defined that there is any effect after applying picture series for second grade students of SMPN 18 Mataram in academic year 2018/2019. It implies that picture series can be used as media for teaching and learning in writing narrative text.
