Abstract

English is important as the international language. In term of constructing narrative text, the use of adverbs is needed. The tenth-grade students of SMA HANG TUAH 3 MATARAM, where this research was conducted, concerning with the ability of using adverbs in narrative. The data was collected by using writing test and questionnaire. This research purposed to find out the factors influence made by the tenth-grade students of SMA Hang Tuah 3 Martaram in using adverbs in narrative text. This research is descriptive research. In colleecting data, students were given the fill in the blank test and questionnaire in collecting data. The data of students in answering test shows the ability of students in using adverbs in narrative text. 2% students were in high ability, 2% students in medium ability, and 96% students in low ability. The data from questionnaire support the fill in the blank test data which describe the factors influenced the students‟ ability in using adverbs in narrative text focused on the students‟ motivation in learning English. From the questionnaire data, 76% shows that students has motivation, 82% students has no motivation, and 42% students has not true motivations‟. So that they made low ability in using adverbs in narrative text.
