Abstract

This study aimed to identify the types of error made by students of eleventh grade when writing descriptive text and the dominant types of error made by students. This study was using descriptive qualitative method and the procedure of error analysis to describe the errors made by students in writing descriptive text. 28 students of XI TAV A were taken as the sample of the study. The data was collected through single test instrument with six topics provided (i.e. my home, my best friend, my favorite place, my idol, a country I want to go, a profession I want to be) to the students. This study was trying to find errors made by students in the final version of their writing. This study focused on error analysis such as omission, addition, misformation, and misordering. The errors could be marked by attaching abbreviation for each type of error. The abbreviations are omission (OM), addition (AD), misformation (MF), and misordering (MO). Writing test was carried out on Tuesday, February 26th 2019. Based on the table above, error of misformation was the most frequent error in writing descriptive text made by students at the second grade in SMKN 3 Mataram.
