Abstract

The purposes of this research are(1) to find the types of errors that the students produce in writing descriptive, (2) to find the dominant types of errors in writing descriptive, and (3) to find the source of errors of the grammatical errors made by tenth grade students of SMKN 1 Kuripan in writing descriptive text. The population of this research is the tenth grade students of SMKN 1 Kuripan in academic year of 2018/2019 with the total population of 186 students. 64 students were taken as the samples from different majors using simple random sampling technique. The data were collected using written test and questionnaire and were analyzed by using qualitative descriptive method. From the error analysis, there were four categories of errors produced by the students, they were omission errors, addition errors (double marking, regularization, and simple addition), misformation errors (regularization, archii-forms, and alternating), and misordering errors. The dominant error was from the subcategories of misformation errors that was alternating errors with 46.4%, followed by omission errors with 24.2%, misordering errors with 13.6%, regularization from addition errors with 11.2%, double marking from addition errors with 3.18%, and the last is archi-forms from misformation errors with 1.5%. In this research, it summarized the number of the subcategories, so that it will be 47.9% for misformation errors and 14.4% for addition errors. It can be concluded that the dominant type of error was miformation errors and the lowest type was misordering errors. The sourceof errors made by the students werelimited knowledge of grammar, first language interference, writing organization, and transfer error
