Abstract

The 2013 curriculum has been implemented for almost a decade since early 2013. But this latest curriculum still did not well-implemented due to many obstacles in the field. This research study aimed to (a) finds out the problems encountered by English teachers in applying the teaching methods suggested by the 2013 Curriculum, (b) to reveal the hindering factors causing the emergence of problems in implementing the teaching methods suggested by 2013 curriculum, (c) to explain how teachers cope with the problems of applying the teaching methods suggested by the 2013 curriculum. The research employed a qualitative research method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with nine English teachers in 3 state Junior High Schools in Mataram. Among other findings, the present study reports the problems, hindering factors, and cope with the related problems of English teachers in applying suggested methods by 2013 Curriculum. The problem that hinders English teachers comprises students’ lack of motivation, lack of supports for teaching and learning activities and lack of Students’ corporation in scientific learning models. While the hindering factors that emergence the problems come from three inputs, the teachers’ ability on instructional management; students’ participation in scientific learning activities; and learning facilities. Due to cope with the problems, teachers can utilize any related sources to foster self-teaching improvement in instructional management; and participating in sharing forum of MGMP for the sake of 2013 curriculum implementation.
