Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out the types of reiteration and the most typical reiteration device used in Indonesian presidential speeches. This thesis used the text of Indonesian presidential speeches in international forum that containing reiteration as the source of the data and it was being analyzed used qualitative descriptive method. Thus, the data were described in the form of words, phrases and sentences. The result of this research shows that there were 988 reiteration devices used with 9,77% percentage of occurance in the text. The total reiteration devices found devided into 949 (96%) repetitions, 21 (2,1%) generalization, and 19 (1,9%) synonymy. The most typical reiteration devices found was repetition with 949 (96%). The high repetition use is tend to emphasize particular word in speech which can be a tool to help the speaker to align themselves with the audience and to legitimate their ideological views like the national interest of the nation they lead and their power status. The reiteration devices in the text were found not only in the form of word only but also phrase, clause, and sentence which the noun class is the dominant used in the text.
