Abstract

The purposes of this research are to investigate empirical evidence of the thinking order skills in questions of English final tests used in SMAN 5 Mataram and to find out the dominant thinking order skills that occurred and also to compare significant difference in the number of low order thinking order skill (LOTS), mid order thinking skill (MOTS) and high order thinking skill (HOTS) the final tests used in SMAN 5 Mataram between class X and XI of science and social classes in academic year 2018/2019.The Approach of this research is a content analysis which gained 280 questions of English final tests from class X and XI of SMAN 5 Matatam. The data were analyzed based on Bloom cognitive taxonomy revised 2001. The result of this research showed that from 280 questions C1 (Remembering) gained 38 questions (13.57%), C2 (Understanding) gained 179 questions (63.92%), C3 (Applying) is 50 questions (17.85%), and C4 (Analyzing) gained 13 questions (4.64%). The result of the study showed that C2 (Understanding) is the most dominant thinking order skill that occurred in English final test used in SMAN 5 Mataram. The significant different in number of English final test in class X and XI in containing of LOTS, MOTS, and HOTS are C1 (Remembering) in English final test for class X 18 questions (6.42%), C2 (Understanding) gained 96 questions (34.28%), C3 (Applying) reached 22 questions (7.85%) and C4 (Analyzing) reached 4 questions(1.42%). Meanwhile in English final test for class XI C1 (Remembering) gained 20 questions or (7.14%), C2 (Understanding) reached 86 questions (30.71%), C3 (Applying) gained 28 questions (10%) and C4 (Analyzing) reached 6 questions (2.14%).
