Abstract

This research is about Aladdin 2019 movie which aimed to explore the forms and functions of sign that are expressed and to analyze the meaning of signs found in the movie. This research was descriptive qualitative method using a semiotic theory who advocated by Peirce as its theoretical framework. The data for this study were collected from Aladdin 2019 movie using note taking as its main reserach instrument. The findings revealed that nine forms of signs were found in the movie including qualisign, sinsign, legisign, icon, index, symbol, rheme, decisign and argument. The results of the analysis revealed that the meaning of these three elements of signs could indeed be interpreted using Peirce’s semiotic theory, especially the relation between their object, representamen, and interpretant.
