Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analyze Obama’s speech at University of Indonesia. The aim of this study to (1) analyzing ideology and (2) analyzing power; is used by Obama in his speech. The methodology used by researcher is critical discourse analysis and interpretation of data. The research data is a fragment of transcription of Obama’s speech. The video of the speech is downloaded from the Youtube page. The results of this study can be concluded that there are: (1) ideology is used by Obama; political ideology, language ideology and economic ideology; and (2) power is used by Obama; social power and French and Raven’s forms of power, legitimate and expert power. Obama attracts the audience interpret the stories in his speech. Although the speech Obama used personal stories and experience to describe his views about Indonesia and he represented his country America and the political about democracy, developing and religion.
