Abstract

This project aims to develop Computer Aided Learning and Assessment packages for a Higher Education Taught course. The aim of this project is to provide an alternative teaching tool for teaching Timber course, which can be used by students as self-teaching interactively. The software which has been used to carry out this project, is Authorware 5.2 from Macromedia Production. Authorware is a powerful and flexible tool for developing all kinds of interactive multimedia but is mainly used for creating Computer-based training programs. The outcomes of this project, are Computer Aided Learning (CAL) and Computer Aided Assessment (CAA) packages for teaching Timber. The CAL package contains an overview of timber, its properties and structure, the design of timber structure members especially Solid Beams, Glulam Beams,and Nail Joints based on British Standard 5268-2:1996. The CAA contains the assessment test of three topics as mentioned above, which consist of 16, 17, and 13 questions for Solid Beams, Glulam Beams, and Nail Joints respectively
