Abstract

The aims of this research are to identify The Readiness of English Department Students of the Eighth Semester of Faculty of Teacher Training and Education Mataram University in the Teaching of English in Industrial Revolution 4.0. In this research the researcher used qualitative approach method to analyze the data. The populations were 30 students of English Department Students of the Eight Semester in Mataram University. 30 students of English Department Students were selected as the sample to gain qualitative data of this research. The data collection was gained qualitatively through questionnaire and interview. The result of the data analysis there are 66,6% of the English Department Students of the Eighth Semester who have the same perception of the 12 questions given. They are well-versed about what is meant by the Industrial Revolution 4.0 and its relation to teaching English. Meanwhile, most of them argue that through technology as a medium to support learning in the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era, students become more creative, enthusiastic, and able to improve their critical thinking. Otherwise, by using technology and internet connectivity, the teaching style of the teacher has changed which makes teaching more efficient and helps a lot for the preparation process of delivering material in the classroom. From this study, it was found that out of 30 students, 9 of them were very ready for teaching English in Industrial Revolution 4.0, 8 students were ready, 7 students were moderately ready, 1 student was slightly ready and 5 students were unready. However, there are some points that have not fulfilled the characteristics of teachers in the 21st century based on the theory of Bill Gates: First, The students have never attended Industrial Revolution 4.0 training related to teaching English. Second, In addition they have never develop sensitivity towards cross-cultural differences and diversity.
