Abstract

This research was about A Study Of Moral Values In The Old Man And The Sea by Ernest Hemingway And Its Inspiration To Students’ Character Building which aimed to explore the moral values found in the novel. This research was descriptive qualitative method using a moral value theory who advocated by Hurlock as the oretical framework. The data for this study were collected from Novel The old man and the sea using reading, observing, quoting, highlighting, and classifying as its main reserach instrument. The findings revealed that six forms of moral values were found in the novel such as Faith, commitmen, respect, personal responsibiliy, friendly, courage. This kinds of moral values were inspiration to character education especially for students’ character building.
