Abstract

The aims of this research focus on the ability of learners to construct review texts compiled using scientific methods through project activities. Measured variables are students' ability to develop project proposals, structure text, and use language devices. All of them are described qualitatively and quantitatively. Thus, the relevant theories used are proposal preparation, review text, intra-type connecting devices, inter-type connecting devices, inter paragraph linking devices, and learning assessment instruments. The methods used to purposive sampling techniques, simple random sampling, and systematic sampling. furthermore, the data was analyzed by using intralingual and extra-lingual methods with distinguishing comparative linking techniques (HBB), comparative linking techniques (HBS), and comparative relationship techniques equating the principal (HBSP) as advanced techniques. The results of this research showed that students are quite able to complete the plan of activities to compile the review text, the review text is arranged systematically and controlled, the intra-word connecting device is utilized very well and the connecting device between the word is used quite well. However, students have not been able to make good use of inter paragraph linking devices, especially in the language features of, cataphora, antonyms, and hyponyms. Meanwhile, the results showed a final score of 70. The value obtained after the score of the three research variables is accumulated and flattened. The amount of value obtained indicates the ability of students to construct review texts through scientific methods with project-based learning models.
