Abstract
This research aims to find out what translation procedure is dominantly used in translating the novel Ugly Love using Vinay and Darbelnet‟s translation procedure theory. It is also aimed to describe to which extent the message is transferred successfully viewed from perspective of semantic and communicative methods. The data were collected from the chapter of multiple five in the novel Ugly Love and its translationWajah Buruk Cinta which were presented using descriptive qualitative method. The findings of this research reveal that there is a total 716 cases which 424 data are direct translation and 292 data are oblique translation.in the direct translation sub-category, literal translation procedure is most dominant translation procedures applied with 348 cases. Meanwhile, in the oblique translation sub-category, equivalence procedure is most dominant translation procedures applied by the translator with 202 cases. In addition, the result shows that the message of the source text is transferred successfully to the target text both semantically and communicatively. The translator overcomes different problems in translating the literary work by choosing different translation procedure that is most effective and suitable in approaching each problem therefore the context of the source text can be maintained and the target text appears more accurate, communicative, and natural.
