Abstract

This thesis aimed at finding out the students‟ perceptions about online learning process and kinds of teaching models used by teacher to attract students‟ attention in English online learning. Population of this research was the second grade students of SMAN 1 Dompu consisting of 10 classes. There were 350 students as the population of this study and 40 of them were selected randomly to be the sample of this study. The data collection was done through questionnaire and interview. Broadly qualitative, this research was supported by quantification data. The result of the research reveals that the majority of students perceive online learning positively. The majority of students (73.5%) consisting of 29 of 40 students perceive online learning as something good. They agree that online learning improve their motivations in learning English that can be seen from four motivation aspects such as attention, relevance, confidence, and satisfaction. Of all the online teaching models applied in the online classroom, students most likely to choose Problem Based Learning. Then, Collaborative Language Learning seems that they are in between. It will be favorable in case they learn together in a group to discuss a material. In contrast, it will be less favored if they are given a group work assignment. The last one is Task Based Learning which are less likely favored by students.
