Abstract

The primary aim of this research is to describe strategies in teaching vocabulary to young learners. Cited by the teacher to Walker Class as young learners at Jage Kastare Foundation in academic year 2020/2021. The subject of this research was the English teacher of Jage Kastare Foundation. This research employed descriptive qualitative method. This study was conducted at Walker Class which is one of the English course as informal education. The data of research were obtained through interview and observation. The data were analyzed by displaying data, reducing data, drawing conclusion and verification. The object of this research focused on the process of teaching and learning vocabulary to Walker Class as young learners. The findings of this study were (1) the strategies used by English teacher in teaching vocabulary, (2) the implementation of the strategies used by English teacher in teaching vocabulary. The findings have shown that there were 4 (four) strategies used by English teacher in teaching vocabulary such as: Listen and Repeat, Listen and Do, Outdoor Activity, and Question and Answer. The implementation of the strategies was used by English teacher by combining one strategy with other strategies which suitable base on the materials used.
