Abstract

Media strategies are essential for language learning as they make the teaching and learning proces more attractive and effective. Nursery rhymes as one of the media that can be used to teach English speaking. This article discusse the effect of nursery rhymes on students speaking ability in junior high school in Mataram. The research employed an experimental design. The samples of the experiment were taken by using population sampling. 10 students were involved in the experiment. The method was pre-test and post-test design. The data were analyzed by using Mann Whitney U-test. It is found the that the U-count is quarter than the U-table of .05 convideall level. It means that Ho is rejected. Indicating that the use of nursery rhymes have a significant effect on students‟ speaking ability.
