Abstract
This research attempts to investigate the effect of Short story on student‟s vocabulary mastery at SMPN 1 Lingsar. The design was quantitative research approach. While the type of this research was Quasi experimental design research. The population in this study were VIII grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Lingsar, in which there were 4 classes, namely VIII1, VIII2, VIII3 and VIII4. The sampling technique used simple random sampling. The research sample consisted of 2 classes from 4 classes, namely VIII2 and VIII4. The technique which was used in collecting the data in this research is test. The result of hypothesis t-test it was found that t-test was 1.15116 and the df of 52, then the t-table value were found 2.0066 at the level significance of 0.05 and the t-table value were found 2.4002 at the level significance of 0.01. It indicated that the null hypothesis (Ho) which stated that “there are no any effects of using short story in students‟ vocabulary mastery at SMPN 1 Lingsar in academic year 2020/2021” fail to be rejected.
