Abstract

The main objective of this study is to know the improvement of students’skill in writing descriptive text which is taught by using Think-Pair-Share technique. This research was conducted at SMP Lenterahati west lombok. In this research, the population is students in the eighth grade. The numbers of population were 40 students. There were 20 students in Class VIII A and 20 students in Class VIII B. The total samples were 40 students. A Quasi-experimental method was applied in this research with two group ipre- itest iand ipost-test idesign. iClass iVIII iA iwas ichosen ias iexperimental iclass iand iClass iVIII iB iwas ichosen ias icontrol iclass. iThe iinstrument iused ito icollect idata iwas iwriting itest. As well as,the test had been supported by having the validity, realibilty and readability in order to measure and know the standard of the test itself to be suitable for the students.The iresult ishowed ithat ithe ieighth igrade istudents iof iSMP iLenterahati ihad iaverage i“fair” iscore ion ipre-test iwith ithe imean iscore i53. iAfter itreatment, ithe istudents igot iimprovement, ithey igot iaverage“good” iscore iwith ithe imean iscore i75. iThe iresult iof ithe idata ianalysis iindicated ithat ithere iwas ia isignificant iimprovement iin ithe istudents’ iwriting iskill iafter ibeing itaught iusing iThink-Pair- iShare itechnique. iIt iwas iproved iby ithe iresult iof ithe istatistical ianalysis iof ithe ilevel isignificance iP i= i0.05 iwith idegree iof ifreedom i(df) i= i38 iindicated ithat ithe it-test ivalues iof ithe istudents’ iwriting i(4.74) iwas ihigher ithan it-table ivalue i(1.68595).Based ion ithe iresult ianalysis, iUsing iThink-Pair-Share itechnique ican ibe iapplied ito iimprove ithe istudents’ iwriting, iespecially iin iwriting idescriptive itext iand iThink-Pair- Share itechnique iwas ieffective ito iimprove istudents’ iwriting iskill iat iSMP iLenterahati iIslamic iboarding ischool iWest iLombok
