Abstract

The purpose of the research is to identify and explain the errors that the second grade students of SMP Islam Sullamul Mubtadi Anjani made in using preposition of time and place. In this research, the researcher uses a qualitative method. The researcher reveals the types of errors and explains the sources of error occurred. This research was conducted following procedures of error analysis. The first procedure is analyzed data from the collected data whether students made error or not. The second procedure is identification of errors. The researcher put the data into the table to identification of student’s errors in using preposition consist of item numbers, the correction, and the causes of errors. The third procedure is explanation of errors, explaining the reasons of errors occured. While, the last is classified the errors into the sources of errors using Richard’s theory. The result of the research shows that 273 errors occurred at the second grade students of SMP Islam Sullamul Mubtadi Anjani in using preposition of time and place. The researcher classifies the sources of errors occured is overgeneralization with 101 and ignorance of role restrictions 172 errors from 20 item number questions. So the sources of errors which divided into two categories. Those are overgeneralization and ignorance of role restrictions.
