Abstract

This study aimed to analyse the relevance of the content of the 2013 Curriculum supplementary textbook entitled MGMP Kota Mataram Bahasa Inggris untuk Kelas VII Semester Gasal to the basic competences of the 2013 English Curriculum and the types of language errors found in the textbook. The method of this study is qualitative study in which the researcher compared the textbook materials to the syllabus while the language errors were analyzed by using the Taxonomy of Error. The data showed that the textbook contents are relevant to several basic competences of the 2013 English Curriculum. The textbook provides the materials as sated in the syllabus and variety of exercises to help students accomplish the competences. However, several contents of the textbook are irrelevant as well in which it contains underrepresentation of the competences of seventh graders of junior high school. Besides, based on the data taken from the textbook, there are ten types of language errors found. They are errors in using punctuation, capitalization, singular/plural, spelling, verb, preposition, sentence structure, literal translation, possessive case, and article.
