Abstract

The Covid-19 has been labeled a global pandemic that is affecting practically every sphere of society, especially education. As a result of the government's decision to close schools, learning activities have been compelled to migrate digitally. During the Covid-19 school shutdown in a state senior high school in West Lombok, this study aimed to investigate learning issues experienced by English teachers and their efforts to overcome those problems. Two English teachers were freely recruited using convenience sampling in a case study. Observation, interviews, and documentation were used to collect data for this study. The data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman's (1994) methodologies, which were informed by the Community of Inquiry (CoI) theory and the findings from previous studies. The investigation revealed that English teachers face a variety of learning challenges, including students' lack of virtual learning communication devices, some students' aversion to virtual classes, teachers' struggles to find sources and learning methods, and teachers' struggles to evaluate student learning outcomes. It was also discovered that the teachers attempted to resolve the issues. The majority of English teachers' efforts take into consideration students' academic ability, socioeconomic status, and school support. Furthermore, these efforts were done to keep their presence in virtual learning.
