Abstract

This study was aimed at exploring the application of Student Teams-Achievement Divisions in teaching reading comprehension at grade 10 student of SMKN 3 Mataram in academic year 2014/2015. The purpose of this research was to identify the effect of Cooperative Learning on students‟ reading comprehension of narrative text. The Student Teams-Achievement Divisions was a type of Cooperative Learning students that the students were assigned to 4 or 5 member learning teams; the teams are composed of high, average, and low performing students. The population of this research was 530 students, and the sample was 60 students. Using experimental design, a pretest and a posttest are used as the instrument to collect the data. The t-test formula is used to analyze the data. Data computation shows that the mean score of the experimental group is 73.5 and the mean score of the control group is 71.7. It proved that experimental group was higher than control group. However, the result of this research proves that the total value of ttest (1.9) that is lower than the confidence level of 95 %. (2.021). It is concluded that Cooperative Learning does not have a significant effect on students‟ reading skill at grade 10 of SMKN 3 Mataram in academic year 2014/2015.
